The Orient Company’s steamship Sorata, which left Melbourne on April 19th, arrived at Plymouth on Saturday. Very unfavorable accounts have been received of this season’s crop from the Kentish hop districts. Adelaide wheat is quoted to-day at 51s 3d and 50s 3d for off coast cargo. At the wool sale to-day 1000 bales were offered. Market rates are weaker for most descriptions, but fino to the finest qualities are firm, A portion of the cargo of frozen meat ex ship Dunedin was sold at auction today, and realised an average of 6M per lb for mutton, and 7id for lamb.
A telegram has been received from Belgium stating that Sir H. Parkes was officially received on his arrival, and that banquets and other entertainments are being organised in his honor. In the House of Commons to-day, Sir Cbas. Dilke, Under Secretary for Foreign Affairs, denied, in reply to a question, that the Porte had rejected the proposal to hold a conference of powers with regard to the Egyptian question, or that Lord Dufferin had suggested that a meeting of the conference should be postponed, on account of the action which the Sultan had taken. Later. The cricket match which was to have been commenced to-day at Bradford between the Australian Eleven and the Yorkshire county team has been postponed until to-morrow on account of rain.
The Yice-Chancellor, the Hon. Sir Chas. Hall, ia suffering from paralysis, and has resigned his seat on the Bench. Consols remain at 100|, and New Zealand securities at the following quotations : —Five per Cent. 10.40 Loan, 106^-; Five per Cent. 1889 Loan, 105; Four-and-a-Half per Cent. 1879-1904 Loan, 103 L The market rate of discount has declined v, and is now 2Jper cent. The Bank rate is 3 per cent. Adelaide wheat, ex store, is unchanged at 51s, and Adelaide flour, ex store, at 345. New Zealand wheat, ex warehouse, also remains at 51s. Australian tallow—Best beef, 43s 6d; best mutton, 44s 6d. CONSTANTINOPLE, June 5. It has transpired that the Sultan has sent a telegram to the Khedive desiring him to order Arabi Pasha to put a stop to construction of fortification in the neighborhood of Alexandria. NAPLES, June 6. The nows of the death of Garibaldi has been received with great regret, and there is universal mourning to-day throughout Italy. It is announced that bis will directs that his body shall be cremated. OTTAWA, June 5. H.R.H, Princess Louise (Marchioness of Lome) arrived at Quebec to-day from England.
