OHBIBIOHUEOE. Monday, June 5, 1882. [Before J. Ollivier, Esq., 8.H., and J. EParker, J.P.] Dbtjnkbnness. —Mary Ann Cunningham, charged with habitual drunkenness, was sentenced to be imprisoned three months with hard labor. For first offences a man was fined 10s and another 20s, two were discharged with cautions. Patrick Ryan was

fined ss, Emanuel Tailing, who had bean drunk and assaulted the arresting constable, was fined 15s ; all with the usual alternatives of imprisonment in default of payment of fines. Illegally on Pbemises —Robert Groat, alias Grant, was charged with being found asleep on Sunday night in a stable belonging to B. B. Best, fle was allowed to go on his promise to clear out of the town, the case being adjourned for one week. Laucbny. —Daniel Smith was charged with stealing a clock. James Grain stated that on June Ist, having the clock in his possession, he fell in with piisoner. They wont into the City, and after having some drinks prosecutor fell asleep, when he woke the clock was gone. It was proved by two witnesses !hat prisoner had taken the clock from Smith, and left it as he said for safe keeping with the barmaid; but afterwards got it again and took it out of the hotel. He afterwards pawned it at Stewart’s, Lichfield street. Prisoner slid he bought the clock from Smith. He was sentenced to imprisonment with hard labor for one month.

Miscellaneous. —Ohas. Chambers and G. Withers were each fined ss, for allowing horses to wander. Several informations by the Inspectors of Nuisances, re faulty drainage, &c,, were dealt with by adjournment or withdrawal. Jos. Josling, jun., for riding a bicycle on the footpath of Papanui road, was fined 10s. A case against 8. Lawrence for using insulting and abusive language was dismissed. Peter Romulus, brought up as a lunatic, was pronounced by Dr. Nichols to be sane, but in ill-health. It was arranged to send him to the hospital, John Smith was ordered to pay 10j per watk towards the maintenance of his wife Teresa, whom he had deserted.
