The President reported a deficit of £ls on the late Midwinter Show. A letter from secretary of the Waimate Horticultural Society, asking for advice as to disputed prizes for butter at the late Waimate Show, was then read, the committee’s opinion in writing being requested, Mr Wilkin was proud that the association were selected as judges, but were they a proper tribunal ? The Chairman thought that the opinion given should be what would have resulted at the A, and P. Show in a similar case. A certain number of silver mcdels were ordered to be obtained for prizes. The Committee were instructed to select certain books, to be procured from England, for the use of the Association. Two tenders for printing the “N.Z Country Journal” were referred to tbe editing committee. The sub committee appointed to revise the November Show Catalogue agreed to meet on Monday next, at three o’clock. Mr R. Wilkin would suggest that the Association should write a letter of congratulation to Sir John Hall on the honor recently conferred upon him. It was resolved that a letter of congratulation from the association be drafted by Messrs R. Wilkin, P. Cunningham, and the President of the association.
Mr R. Wilkin thought it wag a matter for congratulation that the recent shipment of frozen meat from New Zealand to the United Kingdom was such a pronounced success, the meat having realised 7d per lb. ia Glasgow. Several members coincided, and the chairman stated that the sheep thus sent were killed seventy miles from the ship. Mr P. Cunningham would call attention to a cheaper rival, in the use of a now agency for meat export, as detailed in this morning’s
papers. The Chairman than called attention to the silver cup on the table, recently won by the 33rd Duchess of Darrimut, from the herds of Messrs Robertson Brothers, of Oolac, Victoria. It was the first time a onp had been sent from New Zealand to Victoria. The cup bore the inscription—“ Champion Cup. Presented to Messrs Robertson Bros., Oolao, Victoria, for 33rd Duchess of Derrimut. November Show, 1881." J There was also shown the gold _ medal recently awarded to another Victorian breeder, which was inscribed : —“ First Prize and Champion Medal, Jas, Ronwick, Evandale, Victoria. ‘ Oxford Wild Eyes’ 2nd.” Accounts to the amount of £2OB were passed for payment.
