[per press association.! 1 PATE A, May 31. A young man, named OTaliin, attempted suicide last night by jumping into the river. Ho was brought before the Magistrate this morning and remanded till Friday, A young lady ig supposed to be the cause of the rash act.
O AMARU, May 31. Neil MoFee, the fireman who was hurt in the railway accident near Kartigi, on the night of the 23rd, died in the Hospital last night, after suffering fearful agonies. His dying depositions were taken yesterday afternoon. DUNEDIN, May 31. In consequence of the great complaints on the gas supply the City Council have discharged twelve employees, and an intimation has been made that a motion will be tabled dispensing with the engineer, and the Council have also carried a resolution asking Parliament to give the citizens increased representation on the Harbor Board. Te Whiti and Tohu left for Invercargill lakes this morning. At the coroner’s inquest yesterday Kitto was committed for trial on the charge of murder. He was discharged from the Lunatic Asylum in October, 1878, and has since resided with his family at Miller’s Elat, but has not shown any signs of insanity since his discharge.
