DUNEDIN ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.
i PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.I DUNEDIN. May 25. The Acclimatisation Society, in their report for the year, state that 3124 hawks had been destroyed during the year. Deer are reported to be thriving well. Thera is no positive proof of the success of English salmon in New Zealand waters, nor of tho success of American salmon liberated in 1877. The society report that tho Council has through private members boon made aware of many sea trout having beeu caught ia the Otago Harbor by fishermen during the year, It is said that fishermen live on them, and it is certain that many citizen* of Dunedin have them frequently on their dinner tables. Until the law is altered it ia not very easy to convict anyone for taking or killing these fish illegally, but it is to be hoped that tbe Fisheries Bill, which has been before Parliament during the last two sessions, and will probably be brought in again at the approaching session, may provide for this.
