An examination of the market to-day shows the damage to be £450 by fire. At the polling in the Ponsonby suburb the ratepayers voted by 6 to 1 Bgainst an inoroase of publicans' licenses, WELLINGTON, May 23.

A four-roomed house in the N.E. Valley, occupied by Edwin Jarvis, was burned down last night. Contents uninsured. The house, which belonged to James Howard, is insured in the Colonial office for £l5O.
