Haddrdl; hon. sec, Mr Purchase The following is a continuation of our report of yesterday : Handicap Jttunriing High Jump. J. McGregor. Bcratch. stt 4in... 1 McGregor, H. Mann (tin), and H. Lowry (6in), took part. A. Pierca (6in) was called, but cid not appear in time. Mann topped only 4ft Tin. McGregor, about the bent running high jumper in the colony, won with ease. The ground was soft, and sacks wero used for lighting on. Hurdle Sack Race, 150 yds, over! eight hnrdlos, 18in. G. Whiting 1 Threo contested. Johnson was second. Whiting skipped along gaily and leisurely, but very eleverly, stopping now and then to spin rouud. Hop, Step and Jump. J. McGregor, 37ft 3in 1 A. Anderson. 35ft 6in ... ... 2 W. Lavery, 35ft din 3 Five competed. One Mile Handicap. G. Goodwin scratch 1 G. Whiting, scratch ... ... 2 Five started. Whiting started at scratch, instead of accepting 10yds. Time, 4min 4 3-ssec.
Three-legged Race; 220 yards. H. Lavcry and A. Scrimshaw... 1 M. Flanagan and C. Scrimshaw 2 Five Mile Bicycle Handicap. W. H. Langdown (scratch) ... 1 F. M. Allison (scratch) 2
A pretty race, attracting much attention. Besides Langdown and Allison, T. Searell (75yds), J F. Norris (100yds), and F. R. Dunsford (150yds) ran in this race, the distance bßing fourteen times past the winning post. At tho st'irt Langdown made the pace. Dunsford, also a first season's rider, went away with the load and maintained it for the time being. Freaently Langdown forged through his men, and pateed all but Dunsford tho first mile. The ground wa? heavy and the riders stoopad terribly. Allison spurted in the seventh lap and passed Seareil and Norris. In the ninth Allison collared Dunsford, and went on in pursuit of Langdown. In tho thirteenth lap Lnngdown was 50yda ahead of Allison, tho latter drawing on his opponent, but the race was virtually over. Time, 17min 50 3-s£eo. Highland Fling ; in costume.
J. McGregor 1 Three entered. Tbe winner danced properly, the others made but a sorry attempt. Messrs John Norme.n and John Turner kindly acted as judges- The pipes seemed out of gear, thenotes "jibting," and the chanter appearing to be Irish Jig ; in costume.
Geo. Gleeson 1 This was the only competitor, and, as have been anticipated, he proved best man. He wore a flaming red waistcoat, soft white hat, green rosettes at the knees, and a velvet (?) co-it. His advent was the signal for the youngsters to run up and yell applause. Gleeson danced very well. Handican Hurdle Kace, 440 yards ; eight hnr. dies, 3ft 6in. J. McGregor, 25yds 1 H. Lowry, 30yds 2 Six started. Time, 6isec. H. Mann (25yds) was a fair third. Consolation Race, 410 yards (handicap). C. Scrimshaw, scratch ... 1 Cotton, 18yds 2 A. Anderson, 12yds 3 This, the concluding event, was run at twenty minntos to five o'clock, and was one of the best races of the day. The other competitors were Butler (lOyda), Lavery (10yds), Bpioer (25yds), Pierce (25yds), Nicholas (25yds), tnd Flanagan (30yds). Timo, 50 l-sth sec.
