OUR HOUSELESS VISITORS
To the Editor of the Globe. Sib, —la reference to tho statement in yesterday's Globb, " That a large number of visitors were unable to obtain beds, and had to walk about all night," on behalf of tho Ohristchurch Licensing Committees, I desire to say that if it oan be proved to their satisfaction " that many licensed houses not only were not full, but declined to take in tho wandering wayfarers," the case or oases will be properly dealt with, in the interests of the ).ubl ! o.
Yours, &r, R J. S. HARMAN, Chairman,
May 25, I 82,
To the Editor of the Globe,
Sir, —Noticing a paragraph in your issue of last night referring to our visitors being refused beds, accommodation, &c, at our socalled hotels, but what the writer calls drinking-shops, I would very politely suggest to the author of that paragraph to publish tho visitors' names that were refused accommodation, and also the names of the hotels where they were refused beds, &o. In conclusion I might state that we have got toomany of the so-called visitors. Yours, &c, JUSTICE. fOur correspondent asks too much. We have pointed out to the Licensing Committee what we know to be a faot, that numbers of persons wero unable to get accommodation, and it is for the Committee, through the police, fo take what action they deem fit.— Editor Globb.]
