Boyle) 2 Mr Thos, Foster's g g Rocket, aged, 12at 31b (McKay) 3 Mr P. Jones' ch g Gang Awa, 6yra, 12st 31b 0 Mr H. Friodlander's g g Moltke, 6yrs, 12at 31b 0 Mr H. Totalißator, 258; 55 on the winner. Gang Awa first away, Canard second, and Rorket third. They ran thus to Outts', where Rooket camo to grief, and at the next fence Trovatore baulked. Thenceforward it was a moral for either Canard or Overdraft, but the former had all the best of it, and won easily, Rocket a bad third. Hunt Club Cup, of 150 sovs, with a Bweepstake of 5 sovs each to go to the second hor.°e; three miles. Mr J. Pilbrow's b g Clarence, aged, list lO.b (Mr A. Lunn 1 Mr P. Butler's b h Quamby, syrs, list 121 b (Lyford) 2 Mr P. Jones' ch g Young Sledmere, 6yrs. 12st31b (Oooner) 3 Sailor Boy, Katorfelto, and Gang Awa were scratched* Totalisator, 177 at £2 ; 104. on the winner. This was a very hollow affair, and requires little describing. Young Slodmere jumped off with the lead, but soon baulked, when Olarenoe went up and took up the running, finally winning hands down and hard held a longth. from Quamby. Consolation Handicap, of 50 sovs; two miles. Mr H. Adams' Kosciusko, lOat, won easily from Gang Awa, list 31bs; WhyNot,l2at 71bs, baulked. TIMARU STEPLECHASE MEETING. Queen's Birthday meeting was well attended, and fine weather favored the mooting. The principal raoe of the day was tbe Birthday Handicap, and a grand race ensued between Fir Modrod and the Envy filly, the former's viotory being very popular. Three totalisators did a good business. The police did not interfere with sweeps. The results were— Handicap Hurdle Race of 50 sovs; second horse to receive 10 sovs. One mile and a half. Mr W. H. laggart's b g Robin Hood, aged, 9tt Mb (Owner) 1 Mr J. Allen's b g Little John, aged, list (Allen)' 2 Mr C. Hobba' Mokarakara, 5 yrs, lOst 51b (Owner) 3 Haricot, lOst 101 b; Wildboy, lOst 71b ; Cloud, 9st 01b; Ploughboy, Bst 101 b, also ran. Oloud fell at one of the hurdles, and was killed, his jookey escaping unhurt. Robin Hood won with some ease. Maiden Plate of 40 sovs. One mile and a quarter. Hon. G. McLean's b f Legerdemain, 3 yrs, Bstslb (M.Allen) 1 Mr P. Butler's bf Te Ata, 2 yrs, 6st lllb ... 2 Mr E. Cutts' b f Aurora, 3 yrs, Bst 51b ... 3 Clinkarina and Spray also ran._ Legerdemain was a strong favorite, and won easily. Birthday Handicap of 100 sovs, the second horse to receive 20 bovs ; one mile and a half. Mr H. Goodman's b h Sir Modred, 4 yrs, Bstl2lb (Rudings) 1
Hon. W. Rebinson's br f Envy filly, 3 yra, 6st 101 b (8". Smith) 2 Mr G. Batea' ch g Poet, 4 yrs, 6st 81b ... 3 Adamant, 6st 13)b, and Legerdemain, 6at 51b, also started.
Thie was an excellent race between the two first horses. Half a mile from home Sir Modred began to come on the filly, who had been leading for some time, and he gradually closed on her until within 300 yards of home he passed her. All the way to the post the two had a grand oontest, Sir Modred winning by about a neck, amid loud cheers. Time — 2min. 55ssc. Luna had accepted for the race, and not being offioially scratched, the owner was fined £5. Envy filly was most fancied in the totalisator. Trotting Race of 50 sovs, three miles. Mr Nichollb* Randall, 3 yrs, 65secs ... # ... 1 There were twenty starters, of which Mr Vosey's Tiger, with 55jeos, was the favorite. Randall, however, kept his lead to the finish, In one of the totalisators there were eight iuvostors on him out of 244, Time, lOmin 19sec.

101 b .... . ... 2 There wero nine starters, Eugenie being the favorite. An excellent raoe was won by Jasper, by a length, A dividend of about £5 was paid on the totalisators. Time, 2min 19sec. A protest was entered on account of Eugenie being jammed on the rails by Jaoper, but it was dismissed.
Tradesmen's Handicap, of 60aovs. One mile and a distance. Mr P. Butler's ch m Luna, aged, Bst 21b (Derritt) 1 Hon. W. Robinson's br f Envy Filly, 3yrs,
Cat 131 b 2 The Poet, Gat 101 b; Whitbach, Oat 81b; Legerdemain, 6st 61b ; Rcdcliffe, sst 121 b ; and Eugenie, sst 101 b, also ran. Luna won with ease at the finish. Time, 2min Usee. Sho was a strong favorito. Consolation Handicap, of 40sovs. One mile. Mr Bates' Tho Poet, 7st 121 b 1 Five started. The race was run almost in the dark. WANGANUI STEEPLECHASES. Lpbbsb association telegram] WANGANUI, May 24. Tho Wanganui Annual Steeplechase Meeting took place on the racecourse yeoterday, and was fairly successful. The attendance of the pubiio was scarcely so large as last year, though stand and lawn wero well patronised. Tho totalisator was we'd patronised, £IOOO being put through. The principal event was a great success, as Alaro, the wianor, was supposed not to have a show. He was bought ub a hack three months ago for £2O. Accidents were numerous, but the moat serious was that whioh befell Edwards, tho rider of Te Whotu, but he was able to get about after a short rest. The events are as under : Wan&anui Steeplechase of 225 sovs. Throe miles. Mr R. Biggie's Alarc, by Daydawn, lOst 51b (fieaton) 1 Mr Wilson's New Year, by Bavensworth, 10atl21b (Pollock) 2 Mr J. Rao's Groy Momus, lOst 121 b (Owner) 3 Lonehand, Baron, Te Whetu, Catch'em, Chandler, Sunray, Skylark also ran. Alarc and New Year made the running from tho fall of the flag, and jumping splendidly had the race all to themselves. The former won by ten lengths. Te Whetu fell when going well, about one mile from home. Lonehand and Catoh'em refused at the stone wall, and were taken back to the paddock, The | Baron finished nowhere. Time for three miles, 6min 4Jaeo;

and a half miles. Mr G. H. Gibson's Mount, aged (J. Rae) 1 IMr W. Douglas' A.G., 4 yrs ... (A. Keith) 2 i Dr. Connolly's Dhudesn, aged I (W. Nicholson) 3 Raven, Dew, Snnray, and Parikoroaga also ran. It was a good race between the first two. Time, 6mia 3Jseo. Grand Stand Steeplechase. Mr W. Douglas' Baron ... ... (Keith) 1 Mr W. Douglas'A.G (Heaton) 2 To Whetu and Grey Momus also ran. Lonehand baulked at the stone wall, and caused Grey Momus and Te Whetu to stop alßo. None of the trio got any farther, and Mr Douglas' pair cantered over for the stakes. Consolation. New Year, lOst 131 b (Potts) 1 Chandler, list (Watt) 2 Unehond, 12st71b (McCoy) 3 Lonehand was the favorite, and took his jumps in grand style, but the weight told on him, and although ridden right out, he could only finish a bad third, Grey Momus fourth. KINCAID BACES. [TBir Telegraph.] A scratch race meeting was held on the racecourse at Kincaid, when the following events took place: Publicans' Pukse. T. Mr Clements' Groy Bess 1 Mr Schroder's Kate Kelly ... ... 2 Hurry Scurry. Mr T. Smith's Hard Times 1 Mr Schroder's Pahau 2 Forced Handicap, for winning horses. Mr T. Boyd's Deerfoot 1 The events were well contested, and the weather was beautiful.
