The Mendelssohn Quintette Club gave a farewell performance in the Theatre Royal to a large audience, and left for America by the City of New York. At half-past eight a fire broke out in the Auckland Market-house, and speedily went to the turret of the building and along the roof, but was got under by the fire brigade. The damage to the market is about £2OO The market was insured in the National office for £3OOO, the bulk of which is largely reinsured. Mr Green, in whose stall it broke out, ia insured in the Colonial office for £2OO. The origin of the fire is unknown. The body of W. McLaren, who was drowned on the occasion of the late wrecks, was recovered this afternoon. Another body, believed to be that of Mr Gardiner, second mate of the City of Perth, was observed floating in the surf.
