CHRISTCHURCH. Tuesday, May 23. [Before B. Westenra and J. P. Jameson, Bsqs., J.P.’s ] Deunkehness. —Sarah L. Bowman, an old offender, was fined for being drunk £l, or in default forty-eight hours’ imprisonment with hard labor, with a promise of severer treatment if she ever came up again, William Hobbs, alias Josling, alias Tibbs for being drunk a id disorderly, was fined 10j, or in default twenty four hours’ imprisonment with hard labor. For first offences three men were fined each sa, or in default twenty-four hours’ imprisonment with hard labor. William Minors, the man who, when suffering from lunacy from drink, applied for admission to Addington gaol, was now brought up after receiving seven days’ medical treatment, and being pronounced cured, was ordered to pay 10s 61 for his maintenance in gaol and discharged. Embezzlement. — John O’Leary pleaded guilty to a charge of this nature. His employer, John Sharps, a farmer, of Lincoln, had sent him on Saturday last with a lot of pigs to sell at Prceoe’s sale yards. They were sold, and prisoner appropriated the proceeds, £9 I9a-6d. Prisoner stated that after receiving the money he got drunk, and when he came to himself ho discovered that ho had lost the money. As there wes nothing beiides the present offence except drunkenness on record against the prisoner, the Bench Bid they would treat him leniently, and sentenced him to one month’s imprisonment, with hard labor.
