The following events wore got off after we went to press on Saturday : Ten Mila Bicycle Handicap. Prizes, -S3 10s and XI 10s. J. F. Norris, 200 yds 1 F. B. Dunsford, 50 yds ... 2 F. M. Allison, scratch, also started, but owing to the treadles of his bicycle continually coming unscrewed, he was often in trouble, and although he more than once succeeded in getting on even terms and passing his opponents, the delays were fatal to his ohanoe of success. Norris was passed by Dunsford in the seventh lap, afid for about ten laps led by a few yards, after which a series of exchanges ensued, Norris, going gamely in the last lap, and coming on with determination, passed Dunsford amidst the cheers of the spectators, winning with about five yards to spare. T. Searell, who was entered at scratch, did not put in an appearance. Two Mila Walking Handicap. Prizes, .£1 and .£2. C. J. Lawrence, 300 yds ... 1 C. H. Fierce, 300 yds 2 W, Spicer, 400 yds, and J. M. O’Connor, scratch, also competed. This event excited considerable interest, the first to breast the tape being Lawrence, Spicer, Pierce, and O’Connor following at distances of about ton yards between them, but a protest being lodged against Spicer on the score of unfair walking, second money was awarded to Pierce.
Tug of War. Prizi, .£lO. Two teams competed, viz., the Bailway Cricket Club and the Canterbury Bowing Club. The conditions were the best two pulls out of three, which were both easily gained by the railway men. A football match, England v Colonies, took place on the green sward, the former being captained by Mr J. Lewin, the latter by A. Anderson. In the first spell a succession of scrimmages ensued, interposed by a few runs on the part of the backs, but nothing was scored, although the play was slightly in favor of the Colonies. Ultimately, the match was won by the Colonies by several triee to nil. The running track was in such a muddy condition that as time would have been no criterion of condition, no record wes kept. More than one of the events were contested in some sharp showers. The Burnham School Band, together with the master, Mr Maddison, and Mr Bowles, the leader, were entertained at dinner by Mr Louiason, of the Terminus Hotel.
