FOOTBALL.

The match played on Saturday on caster Park—England v Colonies—proved a failure, owing to a large number of players, especially on the English side, not turning up. The Colonies were altogether too strong for their opponents, and the ball was kept in the quarters of the latter throughout the game. Lane and W. Ootterill obtained two fries, rni B. Ootterill. Stringer, W. and It Million, Hyman, ani Mathias, one try apiece, but only one goal was kicked. For the English, Huguener, Hall, and Leech, played well back, and Hawkes, Spragge, end Arundel, forward. The Colonial backs all did their duty well, and the forwards played together and kept on the ball. Of them Lane particularly distinguished himself in the scrimmages, and Hyman was noticeable for his smartness in following up. A team will come up from South Canterbury to play the Christchurch Club on Tuesday,_ They will arrive by the mid-day train, which the home team are requested to meet. The two Fifteens will lunch together at Warner’s Commercial Hotel. The match will be played on Lancaster Park, commencing at three o’clock. The following will represent the O. P. O. E. G. and W. J, Ootterill, Helmore, Anderson, Lee. Kenvig, W. Million, L. H, Lane, W. Potts, H. Mathias, F. Pratt, B. D. Harman, L. B. Haines, H. Farr, and M. Lowin A practice of the North Canterbury Club was held on Saturday, and members are requested to be present at these practices in anticipation of the matches to come.
