COMMERCIAL.

The Customs duties collected at Chrisfehurch on Wednesday, May 17th, were as follows Spirits, .£l2O 19a 7d ; tobacco, 5s 6d ; wine, 3s; sngtr, £ls 10a ; tea, .£SB 10s ; goods by weight, £ls 15s 9d ; ad valorem, £ -91 2a; other duties £157 4a 3d. Total, £759 16a Id. A quiet hut steady trade has been noticeable in onr marketa during the past week, together with a firmneaa in quotations for several lines which previously wore to be had at much lower rates. Bottled ala and stout in good condition hag been freely quitted at improved prices: lower qualities, though offered at a great concession, are unsaleable. A small business has been done in brandy, chiefly for medium qualit'ea; old Scotch whiskey in bulk increases in favor, and finds ready sale at up to 9a 6d. Danville’s Irish has had small enquiry at established quotations. Ead Geneva being at present scarce is only obtainable at higher prices than formerly ruled. Champogne has had enquiry chiefly for “ dry Monopole,” wh ch is in short supply, and several sales have been noted at improved figures. Sugars are ea-y, finest white ery-tals being obtainable at £3llos ; yellows and browns being now more plentiful are quitted at a reduction from previous quotations. Kerosene has had but little business, and that at low rates skip meats being beyond requirements. Salt Doth coarse and fine has fonnd buyers at an advance on previous prices on account of stocks being now more within reason. Candles have had a little business, but only at low rates, and small sales have been effected in on "rants at a decline from former quotations, tllemo raisins are neglected ; muso.teld continue very scarce, and orders are executed at extreme prices; there baa been a good inquiry for salmon, stocks of which are limited; other fish meet with but little attention Tobaccos are a shade ea' iar, owing to recent arrivals, ex-ept fancy sorts, which continue scarce and dear. Galvanised iron is freely offered at £26 Ids, without leading to much business. The late inquiry for fencing wire has been with difficulty executed, several siios being in short supply.
