Three barques arrived this morning—the Agnes Jessie, from Hobart; Andos, from Brisbane, and Janet McNeil, from Glasgow, via Dunedin. The steamer Go-Ahead, from Wellington, arrived at 10 a.m., and the Forest from Wanganui, arrived at 10 p m. last nigh's It is feared that the Inflexible, which cost abous ,£BOO,IOO, and took nearly eight years to get afloat, will prove a failure. She is terribly unwioldiy, by no means swift, and draws two feat more water than was calculated. The electric light, which cost nearly JJSUUO to fit all through the ship, is not a success, and it is now doleful to learu that the officials at Malta dockyard have been busied in preparing a dock for the reception of the monster. The Government of New South Wales is about to build a dock which wid quite overehadow all the others existing or projected in the colonies. The proposed dock, for which £ 150,000 has been voted, will be situated at Cockatoo Island, and be excavated almost entirely out of sandstone rock. The length will ha 630 feat, and the width 108 feet. The depth of water over the sill will ba 28 feet at neap and 30i feet at spring tides. The width of entrance will be 81 faet. It is said that it will be the largest single graving dock constructed, and that it will be capable of receiving the largest vessel afloat. Electric light will be introduced, so that it will be available night or day.
