DUNEDIN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

DUNEDIN, May 18

An adjourned meeting of the committee of the Chamber of Commerce was held this afternoon, Mr Larnach in the chair. On the recommendation of the sub committee, tho following resolution was approved, and is to be submitted to a general meeting of the dhainber on Tuesday next:—“That this Chamber approve of the resolution passed by the committee at a meeting held on the Bth instant, for the promotion of tho Otago Central, and would respectfully urge the Government to give effect to the course of proceeding therein recommended." After a lengthy discussion on the question of tonnage versus ad valorem harbor dues, the following resolution was carried :—“ That this com mitteo regret that they are unable to agree to the proposal by the Harbor Board to collect harbor duos by an ad valorem system, and after a full discussion, unanimously agree to recommend the continuance of a tonnage rate, to be levied on a soole to be hereafter agreed upon." Notices of motion for the special meeting on Tuesday were given, as under:—“That the Dunedin Chamber of Commerce communicate with the Govern, ment of New Zealand, urging thorn to represent to the Imperial Government the extreme necessity of arranging an extradition treaty with the Hawaiian State, by means of which the present facilities for the escape of felons and debtors will be removed.” “ That the co-operation of the other Chambers in Now Zealand be invited.’’ “That a oopy of this resolution be sent to the city members of the Assembly.”—Mr G. L Denniaton. “ That the present condition of the Harbor Board of Otago is cumbrous, and in some respects unsatisfactory ; and that it is desirable before further borrowing powers are sanctioned, that in the opinion of this Chamber some amendment and simplification be made in its constitution.”—Mr MaoNcill.
