[By Telegraph.] [Per 1.8. Arawata, at the Bluff.] MELBOURNE, May 1. By a boiler explosion at the new flour mill, Tarnagnlia, ono man was killed and four scalded ; two dangerously. Burns has been committed for trial for the Deep Lead murder. The evidence is quite circumstantial. The headless trunk of the victim was found some time ago. Applications ore being received from d’fLrent parts of the colony for permission to establish now Yolunteer corps, but nothing will be done until the reorganisation of the force, when some of the existing corps will probably be disbanded. Mr Q-rimwadc, who was elected president of the Chamber of Commerce on Thursday, in an address congratulated the colony on the highly prosperous condition of the production aad trade or the colony for the last twelve mouths. The chief staples showed an increase, as did also trade generally and the revenue. In regard to gold, he expressed the opinion that this year’s yield would be greater tnan last. Information has been received from England that a box containing 1500 sovereigns was lost from the Potoei, and all efforts to trace it were ineffectual. At a recent meeting in favor of the persecuted Russian Jews £6OO was subscribed in an town. The estate of Wright, Payne and Co. shows a deficiency of £54,000, and that of D. Masterton and Co. £12,000 The latter is being wound up in the Insolvent Court. A few other minor failures are reported. It is stated that a number of Liberal members are anxious that the amendment on the Address should embody the censure of Brent and Young as Ministers, but this was overruled.
