[PBS FBBSS ASSOCIATION.) AUCKLAND, May 8. George Earn, geologist and botanist, in the employ of the German Government, has been lost in the bush at Coromandel since Friday. Business in mining operations is entirely suspended ; all the male population being engaged in the search for him. A well attended meeting was hold at the Masonic Hall, to express sympathy with the persecuted Jews in Russia. The Mayor presided. Speeches were delivered by Bishop Ouwie, the Very Rev. Father Fynes, Y.0.J., O. Firth, Rev. T. Buddie (Wesleyan), F. L. Larkins, G. W. Griffin (United States Consul) Rabbi Goldstein, F. A. Phillips, town clerk, and the Rev. M’Kenzie Fraser (Presbyterian.) Resolutions of sympathy were passed unanimously, and the Mayor requested to forward them to the Lord Mayor of London. OHINEMUIU, May 8.

WANGANUI, May 8. The Harbor Board opened two tenders this afternoon for the Harbor contract, and the tender of Mr 'Denby, a local contractor, in the sum of £20,291, was accepted. This tender is lower than the second lowest tender formerly received. The annual meeting of the Gas Company was held this afsernoon. The directors’ report recommended a dividend of 10 per cent, on paid up capital, leaving £597 to be carried to the reserve. They also recommended that the capital should be increased to £14,000 by the issue of 400 shares at £lO. The report shows that the receipts for the year amounted to £3359. The report was unanimously adopted. WELLINGTON, May 8. Tho Hinemoa leaves for Manukaa tomorrow, and returns with the Northern members of Parliament. She then proceeds to Lyttelton, and will bring Sir Arthur Gordon to Wellington for the opening of Parliament.

Two more cases have been added to the Divorce and Matrimonial Causes List.

At a public meeting held in Temuka, it was resolved to form a Butter, Cheese, and Baron Factory Company there. A strong north-westerly gale is blowing. The Wallingford Hotel, Temuka, was destroyed by fire yesterday. The building is believed to be insured in the Now Zealand ofiloe for £ISOO. Several other buildings, including the Crown Hotel, had a narrow escape. The Wallingford Hotel was a new building, and the property of Mr John Hayhurst. OAMAEU, May 8. An interesting ceremony took place here on Sunday. Bishop Moran laid the corner stone of a Dominican convent school. There were upwards of 2000 persons present taking part in toe ceremony and witnessing the same. Offerings amounting to close upon £6OO were laid upon the stone. A portion of the Melbourne boardinghoueo was destroyed by fire last night. The building was insured for £3OO and the furniture for £l5O in the New Zealand office. DUNEDIN, May 8. The strike at the reclamation works is understood to have ended, men being got at 6a 61 per day. The Harbor Board to-day decided to advertise for a new engineer. The Harbor Board’s Crawford street sections realised an annuel rental of £2201.
