THE KINGITE MEETING.

[PBBSB ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM] ALEXANDRA, May 5

Topia and Te H. Hohu with Manawatu and Fox ton Natives, arrived at Alexandra to day. They have been five weeks on the road. They shot about fifty birds daily for food. They came via Taupo and Cambridge. Other Natives, numbering with the Southern tribes about a hundred, also arrived. Nothing was done at Whatiwhatihoe. To-day the impression still seems abroad that some Minister or Major Mair will yet come, though there is no ground for this expectation. An important question has arisen ro the enforcement by the Government of the prohibition of the liquor law. Here it is alleged that Alex andra is not included in districts under the Outlying Districts Sale of Spirits Act. 1870, or schedule of the Licensing Act, 1875, and that the prohibition against the sale to Natives is illegal. Hotelkeepers talk of claiming compensation.
