[PEE PBKBS ASSOCIATION.] ALEXANDRA, May 2,
Heavy rains delay the arrival of people, and it is impossible to say when talking will commence. The Chief Honann arrived from Kopua to-day, and says very few Natives are there, though some are reported on the way. Natives continue to arrive at Alexandra. I have on good authority to-day that Tawhaio is not likely to announce any strange policy. Piobably if he consulted his own inclinations, and those of young men, he would do so, but the old people are averse, and it is doubtful if he can break away from their counsels, owing to the absence of land sales and limited cultivation. TheKingite Natives ore almost without money. There is some talk of re-establishing 'a Kingite newspaper with the old plant, which is now at Kopu. Paaora Inhere has collected £25 towardsthat object. There are now no Europeans living at Kawhia. There are only two blocks of land Crown granted, one 30 acres and the other 44 acres, on the opposite side of the harbor. In the opinion of Natives about Winiata, the murderer of Packer, is informally adverse. They say he must go some time, and deserves all he will obtain. People held the same opinion about Moffat as do the Wanganui natives. He had gone back prospecting to a part of the country over which he had repeatedly been warned. He was told what would happen, but persisted in defiance of a friendly warning. A chief here from Kaipara says—Paeroa, of Kihu, will give £llOO to convey his grandson and nephew to England with Sydney Tawhai’s petition to the Queen. Sydney only received £250 of that amount for bis expenses. The petition had only three signatures. Connell’s Hotel, Alexandra, was robbed last night of the cash box containing £35, and valuable papers were stolen out of the bar. The robbers are unknown. An entrance was effected by a window, and the bar door forced open with a screw-driver. MASTERTON, May 2.
At the inquest on Eremgar yesterday, a verdict of “accidental death” was returned, A rider was added that the man was not competent as a bush faller, and should not have been allowed to go out to fall bush alone.

Emerald reports that on Saturday evening, while on her passage from Sydney to Wellington, she sighted a barque flying a signal of distress. The Emerald went to the assistance of the vessel, which proved to be the Oampsie Glen, that left Timaru for Newcastle in ballast on the 21st ult, When the Emerald was within hailing distance the mate of the barque stated that the captain had committed suicide. He also asked for the longitude and rate of the chronometer. These were called him, and was also signalled by flags. A heavy squall now came on, and no further communication took place. The captain’s name was Smith, but those on board the man-of-war could not ascertain in what manner he had destroyed himself. The Emerald stood by the vessel all night, and nothing bsing amiss she stood on her course.
