INTERPROVINCIAL BICYCLE RACES.
The following is a oontiiuatim of our report of yesterday : Tricycle Bace —Post entries ; prize, XI 1 a One mile. J. F. Norris... ... ... ... I W. Cutten ... _ ... 2 Four started. This race excited comiderable interest, and although Duncford and Hudson started, they soon fell out. A close contest ensued between Norris and O tten, both getting on even terms for a second in the last lap, when Norris forged ahead, sti'l maintaining his lead, and winning by about half a dozen yards. Dalton 3 Four started. Six names appeared on the card for this event, amongst them the pa*t winner of the championship, Mr W. H. Cutten, of the Dunedin Bicycle Club; but two of the Dunedin men were scratched, thus confiding the Southern interests solely to the champion, W. H. Cutten, who rode a 65in. u Humber ” bicycle ; G. E. Dalton using a siin. D. H. F. “ Challenge ” ; X. Beared a 50in. bicycle of the same make j and F. M. Allison a 56in. “Club ” bicycle. In the first lap Dalton led, with Searell, Outten, and Allison in close attendance. This order was maintained till during the fourth lap, when Gotten passed Searell, who in the fifth lap was passed by Allison. This held till the seventh lap,when Outten led peat the pavilion, Allison being second, Dalton third, and Searoll bringing up the rear. During the ninth lop Allison assumed command, and Dalton slowed off. The race was from that time between Allison and the champion, who rode his bicycle in grand style, and, although during the remainder of the race ho made several efforts, notably in the thirteenth lap, All son was not to be shaken from his position, and he came in at the ond of the fourteenth lap, amidst long continued cheering, as tho champion bicyclist of Now Zealand, and winner of the Exhibition Cup, Outten taking second prizj, third (money) falling to Q-, B. Dalton. Time—lßmin. 7aao., as against 19min. B*ec. lost year. Novices Tricycle Bace; one mile; prizs la. Three entries. G. M. Douglas 1 O. H. Oakey ... 2 F. B. Dunsford rode well, and passed Douglas in the second lap ; getting a good lead, but an unlucky opill put him out of tho race, and Douglas had it all his own way. Open Handicap; too miles. First pnz>, valno i!7 7a ; second, value JE3 3s; third, value j£l la. T, Searell (4(10 yds) 1 E C. Farr (500 yds) 2 F. K. Dunsford (350 yds) ... 3 Tho length of the race necessitated 27 laps. Seven started, as under—G. B. Dalton (scratch), F. A. Cutten (scratch), F. M. Allison (300 yds), F. B Dunsford (350 yds), T. Searell (400 yds), J. F. Norris (440 yds), H. O. Fair (500 yds). The third lap showed Dunsford changing place with Seaiell. In the fifth lap he ran into second placo, and at the conclusion of the sixth lap took command of affairs, pa-ising Farr, who had led till then, in the seventh lap. Farr fell further astern, taking third position, exchanges ensuing between him and Searell in the ninth and tenth laps. It was now evident that the race Isy between theie three, viz , Dunsford, Searell, and Farr, they continuing thoir relative positions till the twenty-sixth lap, when Searell, who had been gradually gaining, took the lead. During tho final lap Farr ■hot by Dunsford for second place, and as they passed the post Searell led by a dozsn yards, Farr being about six yards in advance of Dunsford. The riding of F. A. Outten waa favorably commented on by tho spectators, bnt both Dalton and he were simply handicapped oat of the race. F. M. Allison rode a plucky race, but retired at tho twentysecond lap. Norris dropped hopelessly astern, and cried “ A go ” at the eighteenth lap. Dalton met with a Blight accident through his bicycle getting into a ooft plane on the track, and fell, and he consequently retired. Tho members of the P. 8.0. seizad the winner and carried him in triumph to tho pavilion. Time, 36miu 44;ec. Combination Eaoe; two laps. First prize, silver cap (Mr Q. T. White’s prize) ; second, valno j£l Is. W. H. Langdown 1 F.A. Cntten # .... 2 Nice competed. The combination consisted of half a lap walking with bicycle, then mount and ride a similar distance, dismount and run with bicycle a further distance of half a lap, then mount and ride to winning post All the contestants were very smart, but Langdown came in a long distance ahead. A Slow Bace, which was ran in throe heats, was won by T. Searell. The attendance was between 600 and 700, the gate money amounting to £3l 10s. Mr B. B&venhill, of the Caversham Hotel, bad a booth on the ground.
