CANTERBURY AMATEUR ATHLETIC CLUB.
Last evening, after the holding of a preli- j minary committea meeting, the autumnal half-yearly general meeting took place at tho Commercial Hotel. Present Mr J. B. Parker, one of the retiring vice presidents, iu tho chair; and Messrs Lewin, A, H. Anderson, F. Wilding, W, M. Ollivier, A. S. Baker, Jas. Campbell, H. A. C. Ferguson, F. N. Robinson, P. H. Duncan, W. Robinson, and P. W. Hunt (secretary). The treasurer, Mr H. V. Anson, wrote enclosing the accounts, duly audited, and apologising for his absence through illness. The minutes of the half-yearly general meeting to September, 1881, were read and confirmed. A second annual report and an abstract of the state of accounts and general concerns of tho Olub for the past year were received from the retiring committeo, together with an estimate of the receipts and disbursements for the ensuing year. The committee congratulated the Club on the successful athletic meeting held in October, and on the acquisition of the ladies’ and tug-of-war challenge cups. The former was now held by Mr F. N. Robinson, and the latter by the School of Agriculture Football Olub. In view of most of the other events having been won by Messrs A. 8. Baker and J. S. Smith, the committee drew attention to the fact that nearly all the prizes were restricted to a few, and suggested that the members generally should take an active part at future athletic meetings. At the beginning of last year there were 150 members on the roll ; now there were 190, so that tho Club promised to become one of the largest athletic clubs in New ZealandFollowing up a suggestion in tho final clause of the report, Mr Wilding moved, and Mr Anderson seconded, a motion —“ That a circular be sent to all members whose subscriptions for the past year are unpaid, stating that arrears will be put into the hands of an accountant to collect ; and that the names of all members who may be in arrear one month from this date be struck off the list, in accordance with rule 5.” Curried Tho Chairman laid tho accounts on tho table for inspection, remarking that it appeared the Olub owed £35 6s 6d, while there were actually sixty-two outstanding subscriptions due at £1 each. If, therefore, members were to pay up, thera would be a balance at the Bank in the Club’s favor. It was to be regretted that the funds of a olub of the kind should be overdrawn. The secretary mentioned that the payment of subscriptions had bien even more lax than was anticipated. On Mr Ollivier’e proposal, seconded by Mr Baker, tho report and the balance-sheet were adopted. Tho following at poiatments were made for the ensuing year:—President, Mr J. B. Parker ; vice-preeidents, Messrs O. O. Corfe and R. Westenra; committee, Messrs A. H. Anderson, H. V. Anson, Jas Campbell, H. A. O. Ferguson, F. W, Hales, M. Lewin, F. N. Rohi * -n, and F. Wilding ; secretary,
