[PEB PBHBS ASSOOIAriOH.] AUCKLAND, April 21. Death by Drowning. A young man named Webber, a storekeeper at the North shore, was drowned when towing in a dingy attached to the ferry steamer. Deceesed was only married a few months ago. WELLINGTON. April 21. The MailsThe Zealandia, with the March British mails, left San Francisco for Auckland on the 11th inst., three daye late. The City of Sydney, with the March homeward mails, arrived at San Francisco from Auckland on the 18th inst, two days before time, HAWEEA, April 21. Suspicions Case. An inquest commenced yesterday afternoon at Manutahi, ten miles from hero, on the body of a Native, found dead on the road. It was alleged there was a public house row, during which the Native received a blow on the head with a heavy stick from Gallagher, the landlord of the Manutahi Hotel. The Native went off on horseback, but was subsequently found dead a mile or two on the road. The inquest was adjourned till Monday. Natives throw difficulties in the way by downing to allow a j>vst mortem, and though He Native Minister has been requested to Hdcr such an examination no reply hao yet Hen received from him. ■ DUNEDIN, April 21. I Fancy Fayre. ■ The promoters of the fancy fayre took ft 1450. I The Libel Case r Hitchcock was convicted of publishing a 'defamatory libel, the jury adding a rider that, oa public grounds, an inquiry should be held into the working of the Benevolent Institution. Accused expressed regret for his conduct, and the prosecution suggesting that he should enter into a surety to come up when called upon, this course was pursued.
