Sherwia’a ch g Coldstream, 5 yra (Hoskins) 3 The Poet cut out the running, followed by Coldstream, with Sir Modred last, and parsed the stand in the order named. At the turn Coldstream gave place to Sir Modred, with Poet still leading. The latter, however, wao soon outpaced, end Sir Modred won easily by six lengths, Coldstream being about the same distance from Poet. Time, 3min 44seo. Eighty-three investors in the jtotalisutor, 41 were on the winner. Aadies’ Purse, ot 25 sovs. ; one milo and a half ; district horses only. Mr J. M, 'i hompson’a ch g Comet, 3 yr*, (Smith) 1 Mr W. Saunders’ bg Cloud, aged ...(Owner) 2 Mr H. Muire’s b g Laghmor (Owner) 3
Mr P. Jonrneanx’s Lass also ran. Mr Friedlander’s Lulu and Mr W. Saunders’ Why Not were scratched. Laghmor and Comet got first away, followed closely by Cloud and Lass. The latter led past the stand, but at the turn gave place to Comet and Laghmor. Half a mile from home Comet still led, and Laghmor gave place to Cloud. This order was retained to the finish, Cloud winning easily by two lengths. Time, 2min 5 1 sseo. The Hack race, won by Fly, brought a capital day’s sport to a close. TO-DAYS RACING. The attendance at the course to-day was good, and the weather all that could be desired. District Hurdle Race of 25 sovs. One and-a-half miles. Why Not, 12R 71b ... (Saunders) 1 Lorecsnd, list (Kelly) 2 Laghmor, list ... .•• (Armstrong) 3 Why Not won with the greatest of ease. Ashburton Cup, 100 sovs ; two miles. Envy filly, 6st 71bs (Buller) 1 The Poet, 6st 10lb (Blanch) 2 Sir Modred, (9st 61b ... (Goodman) 3 The Poet was leading all the way till they came to the straight, when the filly cams up and won by about four lengths.
