TRIAL OF TE WHITI AND TOHU.
[PEEBB ASSOCIATION TBLESEAM.] AUCKLAND, April 17.
An application for a change of venue in connection with the trial of Te Whiti and Tohu, arrested at Parihaka during the recent West Coast Native difficulty, was made before Mr Justice Gillies in the Supreme Court by the Hon. Mr Whitaker, Attorney-General. The reason for the app.ication was that a largo proportion of the 'Taranaki population had served as volunteers durirg the period of excitement in that district, aud that, therefore, the enda of justice would beet be served by the trials taking place at some distance from the locality which was tbs scene of the occurrences, in which the Natives had taken a conspicuous part. He moved, on bshalf of the Government that the venue be changed from New Plymouth to Christchurch. The application was granted by hie Honor. The trial will commence on Jone sth.
