BOARD OF HEALTH.

This Board hold a meeting on Wednesday afternoon at a quarter to five o’clock. Present —Mr W. Vincent (chairman). Dr. Doyle, and Messrs J. B. Parker, W. F. Hubbard, A. Ashworth, S. Manning, F. Jones, and L. Harper. The Colonial Secretary telegraphed, asking what fee the Board suggested for inspection of dairies. Decided to recommend that the amount should not exceed £1 ; also, that dairymen should be obliged to put their names on their carts, &o. Mr John Brightling, contractor, wrote that ho had received from the City Council a notice that the latter had decided that no night soil from outside the city could for the future bo carried or deposited on the reserve at present used by the writer, who, therefore, requested the Board to grant him permission to deposit the night soil from the outskirts on the Board’s reserve adjoining.— Referred to the assistant engineer to report to the chairman, the latter to have power to act. On Mr Manning’s motion, the question of the amount of salary to be paid the medical officer for inspecting dairies was loft in abeyance, pending receipt of further information from .Wellington, Dunedin, and Auckland. Mr Parker referred to the prevalence of scarlet fever and diphtheria from the use of cesspits.—Resolved to take steps to abolish cesspits within the sewage area. Accounts amounting to £24 18s 4d were passed for payment.
