SALES OF THOROUGHBREDS.
Messrs J. T. Ford and Co. submitted a number of yearlings, two-year-olds, horses in training, &0., the property of Messrs Mason and Yallance, to public competition this morning at their repository. Those wore followed by throe yearlings and three two-year-olds from the Russley stud, being the property of Mr G. G. Stead, by the wellcnown imported sire Leolinus. The attendance of buyers was not calculated to encourage the breeding of thoroughbreds for sale, and the prioc-s realised on the whole fell far short of the value of the animals submitted, Of Messrs Mason and Yallanoe’s lot the most noticeable sales were—A bay year-
ling colt by Albany out of Mermaid. Thio youngster, who combines the Thormanby and Flying Dutchman strains, was quitted at 350 gs to the gentleman who races under the name of Mr H, Horatord. Fleur de Lys, by Producer —Fleurange, was knocked down to Mr Lance at 200 g«. The brown colt Turquoise, by Tubal Cain—Topaz, went to Mr Cassidy at the sum of 175 gs. Mr Stead’s lot were next submitted, the only one of which to reach three figures was the magnificent ohesnut filly Leonora, by Leolinus —Gossip, who fell to the nod of Captain Bussell for ICOgs. Subjoined is the detailed list of the horses sold, with the names of buyers and prices affixed :

Mr Steady horses:—Yearlings—Bay colt Badames, by Leolinus —L’Orient. 70gs Hon. W. Robinson; ohettaut filly Neacra, by Leolinus—Naiad, 40gs—Hon. G. McLean ; chestnut colt, Laureoon, by Leolinus, Laura, 55gs—Mr L. Walker. Two-year-olds : Bay filly, Elaine, by Leolinus, Equation, 45gs— Captain Russell ; bay filly, Aida, by Leolinus, L’Oriont, 35gs—Mr Powderell, Wanganui ; chestnut filly, Leonora, by Leolinus, Gossip, lOOgs—Captain Bussell. A four-year-old chestnut gelding, by Castaway, Belle of the Isle, 40gs—Mr Driver. Libeller and Billingsgate, althouoh absent, were submitted, and passed in at tho sums of 400 gs and 200 gs respectively. The annual salo of Middle Park yearlings was held at Tattersall’s this morningMr Tabart, of Messrs B. Wilkin and Co., officiated (fch" sale being conducted in conduction with Messrs H. Matson Che first submitted was a bay oolt, by Traducer out of Idalia, but, as bo failed to elect a higher bid than ICOgs, ho was passed in. Next eame a bay, by Traducer or Sfc. George, out of Maria Theresa, who found a purchaser in Mr Sherwin, of Waimate, at 55gs. After this came the pick of the lot in a brown filly, by Traducer —Strenua (imp), who wae secured by Mr E. Mitchell for 300 gs. A bay filly, by Traducer—Charm, was bought by Mr Brown at 20gs. The next offered was a bay filly, by Totara—Watersprite, who fell to the nod of Mr Guineas, of Southland, for 55gs; and lastly, a Totara— Red Rose filly was submitted, falling to the nod of Mr A. Thomson for tho sum of 25gs. Messrs Aclemd, Campbell and Co. (also in conjunction with Messrs H. Matson and Co.) followed with Mr H. Hereford's well-known and highly bred horses, but not reaching owner’s reserves they failed to change hands. Nonsense was started atSOOgs, and passed in at 950 gs. Siesta was withdrawn at 750 gs. Muscat was passed at 175 gs, the others provoking no offers.
