CORRESPONDENCE

KAIAPOI BAR.

To the Editor of the Globe.

Sib, —Any one acquainted with this bar must agree with the remarks in your issue of 6Dh inst, viz , “ That as a larger percentage of vessels go ashore here than at other bars, some inquiry is imperative." The bar, it is well known, is as safe and easy to cross as any in New Zaaland, when reliable-beacons are provided, and yet the loss of the “ Jessie ” is the second casualty in a few months. If the suggested inquiry is held, it must be conducted by some independent person: an inquiry, for instance, conducted by that servile body the Waimakariri Harbor Board (which is popularly supposed so have something to do with the river) would be as satisfactory to those interested as a similar appeal to Jupiter would. Yours, &c., ARGUS.
