The morning of the Autumn Meeting of 1882" broke clo-avly and threatening, but as the day advanced the clouds lifted, and although it continued cloudy no rain fell. The attendance was moderate.
Ins Push Handicap, a sweepstakes of 3 sovs each, with 50 aovs added; for three-year-olds and upwards ; one mile. Mr E. Cats’a ch m Nautilus, 4 yrs, 7st 121 b (T. Thompson) 1 Mr H. After two breaks away, Nautilus went away for the start, Betrayer second, Volunteer third. At the half-mile The Joker improved his position and gradually drew on the mare, but, in an exciting finish, Nautilus won by a little better than a head, Betrayer, two lengthsoff, third. Time, Imin 47i«eos.
The Qbbat Autumn Handicap, a sweepstakes of 10 sovs each, with 300 bovb added, and the silver cup, value 100 bovb, presented by J. A. Mr Robinson declared to win with Salvage. After several breaks away the lot were sent away to a good start, Libeller and Lure cutting ont the running. At the turn Lure took possession, Libeller and Poet second and third respectively, Legerdemain whipping in. This order was retained round the back of the course. At the three quarter-mile post Libeller again went up to first place, Poet second, Lure beaten off. At the turn Salvage, who had been lying well back improved his position, and shortly got on terms with the leader, and when twothirds up the straight the son of Castaway came away gamely and won by about two lengths, Libeller three-quarters of a length behind Luna, Lady Emma close up.
