OHBISTOHUBOK. Saturday, April 8. [Before E. Beetham, Esq , 8.M., and B,

Westenra, J.P.j Drunkenness. —Ja rues Austin was charged with being drunk, with refusing to leave the Palace Hotel when requested to do so, and with assaulting Vincenzo Berti. He pleaded guilty, and was fined £1 ss, or in default five days’ imprisonment. Henry MoShea, for being drunk, was fined £l, or in default forty-eight hours’ imprisonment with haid labor, For a first offence, a man was fined ss, or in default twenty-four hours’ imprisonment with hard labor, Stealing prom a Till —Timothy Sullivan, alias Henley, was charged with the larceny of 15s from a till belonging to T. J. Aikio. On the application of the police he was remanded till May 12th. Desertion. —Jack Bose, who has been in custody for the past two months, charged with deserting from H.M.S. Ealeigh at Wellington on August 11th, 1880, was now ordered to be delivered to the commander of H.M.S. Miranda, at present in Port Lyttelton.

Breaking into a Fruit Shop.—ffm. Shannon, Henry Hylaud, William Hyland, and Alexander Cross, boys from ten to fourteen years old, were charged with breaking into a fruit stall at the Market Place in the occupation of M. A. Fiddcs, and with stealing therefrom fruit and lollies valued at si. The two last named having admitted that they were the thieves, the othen were discharged. William Hylands received a caution and was given up to his mother on her promising to whip him. Alexander Cross, who received a very bad character from the police, was ordered to be sent to Burnham Industrial School for two yean. The Jury List. —The jury list was brought up by Sergt. Mason for confirmation. There was one objection. Edwin Butt stated that he was born a British subject but had emigrated to the United States and had been there naturalised. He had arrived in New Zealand from the States six years ago and had resided here ever since. The Magistrate, after looking up authorities, informed the applicant that having taken up his residence here, and been receiving the protection of our laws, he was liable to be called on for this duty with any other citizsn. The list was thou officially allowed.
