TALD HURST. The opening meeting of the season was «ozkmenced on Monday at Yaldhurst, and finished Tnewday. This meeting, which was* by invitation, was got up under the management of several sporting men of the district Mr E. Mason undertook tho roll of judge, and Mr Adam McConnel, who is slipperier the Papanui Club, which holds the next meeting, was entrusted with the slipping which he performed very well. Flora Mclvor, the winner of the Puppy Stakes, was trained by Hayden of Ih-cb-bleton. A circular has been addressed to several coursing men from Mr T. Et. Ranger, inviting them to a day’s coursing on his property at Eollestou on Friday next. As the day is a holiday, and the distance from town an easy one, the invitation will no doubt be largely responded to. The first meeting of the Canterbury Coursing Club will be hold on May 17th and following days, on which occasion the Canterbury Derby, for an unlimited number of dog puppies whelped on or after July Ist, IfiSO, and the Canterbury OakK, for an unlimited number of slut puppies, also whelped on or after the same da e, and tho Christchurch Stakes, for an unlimited number of all-aged dogs of both eexos, will be contested. Tho entrance fee im sgs each. Entries, accompanied with a deposit of Ig each, will close at S p.m. on Monday, April 17th, for the Derby and Oaks, whilst tho nominations for tho Christchurch stakes will close at 8 rum. cm Monday, May 17 th. There? is every probability of the coursing season of 1882 being a most successful one, os very great interest, is being manifested in the sport, and the number of owners of greyhounds is largely in excess of any previous year.
