CHRISTCHURCH. Thursday, April 6. [Before B. Beetham, R.M., B. Westenra, J.P.] Dbcnkbnnrss. —Mary Ann Bateman, who had been found druuk in an empty house, having an infant and a boy of six years with her, was cautioned and discharged. Ellen Jordan was fined 20s, or in default fortyeight hours’ imprisonment with hard labor. For first offences two men were fined each ss, or in default twenty-four hours’ imprisonment with hard labor. Illegally on Premises. —Thomas A tkinson was charged with being found on the premises of J. L. Fleming. Ho admitted the fact, but stated that he had gone there being unwell. As it appeared thot he hod no felonious intent ho was cautioned and discharged.
Felonious Assault.—A case of this nature against Victor Peres, in the case of a girl aged
under ten years, was adjourned to allow prisoner to procure counsel. Orvxii Oases —ln the case of Hill ▼ Betts’ Trustees, a claim tor compensation, £l2, for damages sustained in consequence of an error in the description of the currency of a mortgage over a property bought from defendants, which case was heard on March 29th, judgment was now given for defendants with costs. Judgments went for plaintiffs, by default, in City Council—-v Cutler, £l6s 101; v Ekberg, 18s 41 ; v Crook, £2 6s XOd ; v Bruce, £6 Os XOd ; v Neilas, £2 15s 6d; v Anderson, £3 14a 6d ; v Horton, £1 3s ; v Tindall, £1 3j. Brocklehurst v Davison, £2 12s ; Same v Heath, £3 8s ; Tutton v Paleman, £2 19s fid; and Garland v Robinson, £7 7s.
LYTTELTON. Thuebday, Apbil 6th, [Before J. Ollivior, Esq , B.M.] Dhuhk and Disobdebly. —Charles Smith was charged with being very drunk and very disorderly on Thursday night. The accused was a seaman on board the ship City of Perth, and from the style in which he crossexamined the sergeant of police he felt highly indignant at being arrested. Constable Cleary, however, proved conclusively defendant waa in a bad way. Two of his fellow seamen who were in company with the defendant, and who stated they were endeavoring to get him aboard the ship, were charged with attempting to rescue him from custody. The master of the ship gave them an excellent character, and they were fined 10s each, one of them, Marlin, to pay 17«, damage done at the police barracks, the price of a window broken.
Assault. —A case preferred against Walter Treherno by Louis Ferdinand, for assault, fell through and was dismissed.
