The Minir.ln, one of her Majesty's war vessels doing duty on the Australian station, arrived yesterday morning, and came into the innerharbor, taking n;> her position inside the Gladstone Pier alone of the buoys. The Miranda is one of the modr rn stylo of cruisers, handy in size, strongly bnilt. and possessing good steam power. She is rigged as n barque, and is composite bnilt. her de-Boripti-.m Ivina: that of a steam sloop of 1120 tons register and 1020 horse power. It is her first commission, entered upon in July, 18SO; and since leaving Devonnort, she has been cruising in the South Sea Islands for the greater part of the nme. Sim carries six 7-tou Armstrong gnus, mounted on modern principles for service at sea, Sid has a, portable Armstrong adapted for nse on ifcore or in a boat, besides a Gatling. All told, there nrc 117 officers and men on board, and her a-cw carry Martini-Heuri rifles. Two torpedo norviecs complete the fighting conveniences of this ** dog of wir " She is commanded by Commander Bnrgcss Watson, aud officered by Lieutenants p. p. French, J. 0. Her last port of departure was Hobart, where she was stationed for the past two months. When she will leave hero is not Stated, bat it is probable her stay will extend over a few weeks.
