TRAGEDIES AT NOUMEA.

The City of Melbourne, whioh recently arrived at Sydney from Noumea, brought reports of the undermentioned tragedies, whioh occurred shortly before the vessel left: -

The first wan a oase of jealousy, suicide, and murder. It appears that a Mons. and Madame Odey, who ariived in Noumea aomo feif months since from France in the steamer Le Preourseur, had settled in the place, Madame taking an hotel or wineshop in Noumea, and her husband, who is said to have been in the detective force, went into the country to work. Rumors evidently reached his ears which induced bim to become jealous of the attractions of his wife, and he returned in haste to town, and after having some altercation with her, he deliborately drew a revolver fiom his belt, and, having shot her dead, ho put the muzzle to his own head, and blow his brains out. The horrible occurrence caused a profound sensation in Noumeß, especially as both were well known and generally well liked. The second tragedy was one in which there were three conviots shot. It appears that the butcher's boat left Noumea for the convict prison at He Nu, and having arrived there, and the beef being landed, the men in charge went up to the store to see the meat weighed, leaving three or four Kanakas in the beat. Suddenly seven conviots rushed down into the boat and threw the Kanakas overboard, and wore making off in the boat, when an alarm being raised, the gendarmes rushed down and fired a volley from their riflvi into the boat, killing two of the convicts and dangerously wounding another. The oihor men thon capitulated, and were removed back to prison.
