ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.

An ordinary meeting of the members of the above society wes held on Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock, in the Commercial Hotel. Present—Mr John Marshman (chairman), Dr. Brittin, and Messrs Boys and S. O. Earr (seoretary).

Mr Boys apologised for the unavoidable abrance of Mr J. li. Hill.

The following telegrams from Mr G. S Cooper, under secretly, were read : " 21st March.

" Grume ser-ons w>'l ba gazetted probably next week. It depends upon return of papers from his Excellency." " Hares will be deolared open for shooting on Ist April. Licenses are in future to be issued by postmasters at chief towns, but fees of oourte wiU be periodically paid to societies. Circular in preparation explaining." The Secretary pointed out that the payment of the fcca periodically as proposed would have the effeot of keeping the scoiety out of the money for a considerable period. It wes resolved thit the secretary reply to the tslegram «'n the following terms : " Numerous applications made for issue of licenses. Chief Postmaster not instructed, and can do nothing. Please authorise me, as seoretary of the Acclimatisation Society, to issue them as heretofore."

A telegram was received from Messrs Hayter and Wharton, of Waiau, addressed to the curator, dating that they successfully turned out four large trout eighty miles from Ohristchurch on Monday last. Several accounts were passed for payment, and the society adjourned.
