OHRISTOHUROH. Wednesday, Mabch 29. [Before K. Beotham, Eiq., B.W.J Dbitnkenness —James Edmondson waß fined 10s, or in default forty-eight hourt' imprisonment with hard labor. Jane Whito and three men, who had never before been similarly charged, were fined 5s oach, or in default twenty-four hours' imprisonment with hard labor.

LYTTJELTON. Wednesday, Maboh 29. [Before his Worship the Mayor.] No Jubisdiction. —The oook of the ship Brilliant, charged with assaulting tho mate, and with damaging ship's property, was re manded until to-morrow, it being necessary for two Justicos to be on the Bonch to try the ease.

OntTELTY to A HOBSE. —G-. Jackson was charged with this offence. George Sopp, carrier, said the defendant had kept a horse for twelvo or fourteen days in tho Albion stables without sufficient food. W. Treherne, in the employ of Messrs Oook Bros., butohers, said he migtu go into tho stable at any timo ; he never saw the horse with food bofore it. Robert Milsom gavo similar testimony. Constable MoOlonnau said he visited the stable in question and found the horße apparently in a starving condition. For the defence, John Sullivan, in employ of tho landlord of the Albion Hotel, said he had seen the defendant feeding the horse on Tuesday. W. A. Wood, landlord of the Albion Hotel, said the animal had been in the stable but twelve dßys altogether. Of that time the horso had been turned out to graza for a day or two, and he had seen the defendant feeding it once or twice. The horse was brought up to the Court, and his Worship went out to see it. It was certainly in a very bony condition. The defendant stated it wrs very old, and no amount of feeding would fatten i(. He had fed it regularly, but to no purpose, and ho had intended to destroy it. Tho Bench reminded the defendant that a proviom convic'.ion w«s standing against him for cruelty to ona of his horses, and cautioned him not to come up again. Defondant was then fined 10s,
