Mr Green and his Swiss guides, accompanied by Mr Hodgkins, solicitor, of Dunedin, made an attempt, to ascend Mount Earnslaw, head of Lake Wakatipu, ycsteiday, but tho weather was extremely bad, and they were unable to get up more than four thousand feet. Mr Green, however, believes there is no great difficulty in reaching tho summit, but it is a feat not to be accomplished by an amateur. He admires the lake scenery, and has no doubt members of the Alpine Club will visit the lakes next year.
