N.Z. GRAND NATIONAL. In view of the Exhibition to be held in Ohristohuroh, it is contemplatrd to hold the next meeting of the Grand National at Ohristchuroh instead of at Ashburton. Had the latter place been adhered to it is understood that Messrs Joubert and Twopeny would probably have initiated a day's racing in the metropolis on Queen's Birthday. The number of entries would then have been divided between tho two localities, and each meeting would have militated against the sucoesa of the other. Residents at and South of Ashburton will scarcely, under the circumstances, feel aggrieved at the change, as the Grand National Steeplechase Club will no doubt bear the claims of Ashburton in mind for the ensuing meeting of 1883, in the event of tho residents of Ashburton waiving their present agreement in the general interests of the sporting community. ELLESMERE JOCKEY CLUB. A meeting waa held at Mitchell's Royal Hotel, Southbridge, on Thuraday evening, Mr Bishop in the chair. The secretary stated that he had received resignations from Meiers W. H. Woodman, O. Prankish, and F. Overton, as stewards of the club. It was resolved—" That their resignations be accepted." Mr William Bishop stated that, as he would have horses running at the forthcoming meeting, he deaired to resign his position aa judge. The meeting expreased their regret at losing the services of Mr Bishop, and a resolution was framed by the secretary—" That Mr Bishop be requested Jo aot aa judge for those raoea in which he was not interested." This was seconded by Mr Dan Rellaghan, and carried. Mr Bishop stated jtnnfc on these term* he would, with pleasure, continue to act. A letter was read from Messrs Hobba and Goodwin requesting the privilege of working a totaliaator on the ground. The secretary was direoted to write granting the request, provided 2J per cent, of the gross takings be paid to the funds of the club. A vote of thanks to the chairman closed the meeting.
