OHRIBTOHUROH. Monday, Maboh 20. [Before B. Beetbam, Esq., K.M., and T. Aoland, Esq., J. P.] Dbttnkbnnbss.—Charles Willis, for being drunk and disorderly, and for assaulting the arresting constable and damaging his hat, was fined 10s, and ordered to pay 12s for damage. John O. Briokett, for fighting, was fined 10s. Robert Giant was fined ss. For first offonoes five men were fined ss. One woman was oautioned and discharged. Vagbasoi.—Alexander Campbell, found loafing about soliciting alms, was sentenced to three months' imprisonment with hard labour.

IKPAMTIOIDB —Eliza Harris, charged as above, was brought up on remand from March 13th and further remanded till March 27th.

Lakobny.—Peter Reyman was charged with stealing six books, two bottles of whiskey, two bottles of sherry, and one bottle of claret, valued at £4*4). The evidence showed that prisoner had been employed as servant by Helen Ologstoun, and that he had appropriated the articles named. He had been in gaol nine days and was ordered to be further imprisoned for fourteen days with hard labour. Thb Watbb Closbt Ndtsakcb. —P. Doyle was charged with having defective aooommodation on his premises, Oxford terrace east. Mr Hobbs, Inspeotor of Nuisances, stated that this was a case similar to that of the White Hart, only, if possible, worse. The water-oloset upstairs discharged into a samp connected with the side channel, whore witness had found solid excreta floating. Dr Doyle did not deny the existence of the nuisance. He said ho thought, however, the prosecution had been brought as a piece of potty spite, because in his place at the Board of Health he had found it his duty to move for the revocation of oertain powers delegated to the City Council. He had not occupied the house for fourteen months. When five years ago ho erected the oloset he bad obtained permission from the City Oounoil. Since this information had been laid he had abolished the nuisance. His Worship said the information had been laid against the owner rather than the tenant, beoause the Act gave the option, and as it devolved on landlords to provido proper accommodation, it would be unreasonable to sue the tenant. Defendant wsb fioed 6a.—John Coker, against whom a case was heard on the 13th inet., having now abated nuisance, was fined in the nominal penalty of si.
