Judge, G. Plaskettj starter, H. Ffitch ; clerk of the course, W. Gilchrist; clerk of the scales, H. Sedcole. These races came off yesterday at the racecourse, Bast Oxford. The weather was fine, but _ very oppressive, and the attendance, particularly in the early portion of the day, very limited. The stand just erected was scarcely at all patronised. It is a rough, open structure, with bar accommodation underneath, presided over by host Paget. One end of the ground floor is partitioned off for a weighing room. The stewards and officers of the club did all in their power to make the meeting a success. Mr G. Plaskett, acting as judge, gave entire satisfaction, as did also the starter, Mr H. F. Ffitch, and the other officers of the club. Messrs Hobbs and Goodwin were on the ground with their totalisator, but speculation was very limited. The following are the details :
Open Hurdle Bace Handicap, of 20 sova ; two miles, over eight flights of hurdles. Mr E. Murfitt’s b g Moa, by Defamer, fiyrs, Sst 121 b (G. Murfitt) 1 Mr P. Marsh’s hr h Young Diomedcs, aged, list 10 b (H. Murfitt) 2 Mr Clayfield’s b g Albion, aged, list (Sheenan) 0 The three got away to a good start, Diomedes (very lame) making the running. The first hurdle was negotiated by Diomedes still leading, followed closely by Moa. At the second hurdle Albion ran round, and seeing the hopelessness of continuing on, was puffed off. On coming into the straight the first time round Moa stiff sustained the lead, which he held throughout, eventually winning in a common cantor.
