OHRISTCHTJEOH. Wednesday, March 15. [Before R. Boetham, Esq., R.M., rnd E. Weitenra, Esq., J.F.] Drunkenness. Annie Wharton was fined sa. Alleged Cutting and Wounding.—T. J. Ryan was charged as above. John Vogel, a milkman, stated that at about a quarterpast seven on Tuesday night, while passing down Worcester street cast, he heard the screams of a woman, and found that they proceeded from the premises occupied by prisoner, and on going that way witness saw prisoner in the yard or garden holding a woman down. When prisoner saw witness he went into the house. The woman, who was Mrs Ryan, made a communication to witness and followed her husband. She afterwards came out again and ran down the street; her left arm was bleeding. Henry Pierce, who had been in company with Vogel, gave similar evidence. Grace W. Hal fey, living next door to prisoner, deposed that she heard screams at about 7.15 p.m. At eight o’clock she saw Mrs Byan, who had blot i on her left arm. In the course of two years there had been frequent rows at Ryan’s, to the groat disturbance of the neighbours. Constable Lawlor said ho arrested prisoner, who, when charged, said “Did you see me do it?” Witness saw blood on a sleeve of Mrs Ryan’s dress. Witness found a knife (produced) in prisoner’s pocket. Mrs Ryan was then called. The police stated that a subpoena had been issued, but she refused to obey it. A warrant wre then issued, but before it could be executed she attended, and at two o’clock the case proceeded. Sbe, however, was intoxicated, and the Magistrate refused to hear her. The matter be-’-ig left by the police in the hands of the Court, it was treated as the result of a drunken row, and the prisoner was discharged with a severe caution.
