Native AffairsThree weeks ago Rewi sent Mr Grace, the Native Agent, to the Mokau for the purpose of ascertaining it there were any objections beyond Tawhaio’s claims of mana and ownership to the holding of the Native Lands Court there. Mr Grace visited Upper Mokau and the Tuhua country. A large meeting was hold at Upper and Lower Mokau, and discontent was expressed at tho action of the Government in refusing the Land Courts, thereby throwing the Natives back on Tawhaio’s rule. The Natives ridiculed Tawhaio’s claim on the Native Office as a pakehaMaoti canard. The Natives alleged that, the Maniopotu tribe separated from the Kingites at the Hikuranga meeting laat year,when they decided to follow Rewi, and put the land through the Court. Mr Grace returned to Kihihi yesterday, and detailed the result of his mission to Rewi, who has written to Mr Bryoe, urging him to listen to the request of the Mokau Natives for land of his own on the Tanpo side. Beweti, an influential Mokau chief, accompanied Mr Grace. DUNEDIN, March 16. The Tararua DisasterDivers are still engaged in seeking to recover the silver lost in the Tararua. The weather is now more favorable to their operations, which they are hopeful will yet be inoceisful.
