WELLINGTON, March 10, The Te Aro ReclamationThe Harbor Board has received a letter from the Marine Department, stating that the Government is advised that the proposed To Aro reclamation plans do require the assent of tho Governor in Council, and that should the Board consider the reclamation likely to Drove injurious to the navigation of the jarbor, it is the proper authority to move the Attorney-General to obtain an injunction from the Supremo Court to restrain the Corporation from proceeding with the work until approved of by the Governor. The Board’s solicitors advised that it was decidedly not within its functions to apply for the injunction, and the Board have resolved to abide by this advice. NEW PLYMOUTH, March 10, i The Breakwater. The s.s. Kennedy arrived from Wellington this morning at eleven o’clock. She went alongside the breakwater, and commenced to discharge her cargo of cement. She is the first steamer that has attempted to discharge cargo at the breakwater, the work having now been extended into deep water. NAPIER, March 10. Coal. Farther samples of coal received from Mohaka exhibit a much better quality, and the locality is much more accessible to town. Fire. A fire occurred early this morning in the township of Clyde, Wairoa, which destroyed Oattally’s bakery and Sanders’ butcher’s shop, and damaged Atward’s cottage. The insurances are—New Zealand office : Oattally’s stock, £200; premises, £l5O ; Sanders’ shop, £l5O ; Atward’s cottage, £250. DUNEDIN, March 10. The Southern Cross Petroleum Company.
The “ Times” says the Southern Cross Petroleum Company have no valid lease of the country where the petroleum is found, not halt tho necessary signatures having been obtained, and the Government having at, first an incomplete lease over the land. The Melbourne shareholders, represented by Sir O. MaoMahon and Messrs Jack and Kenies are disgusted to find that the Native title has never been extinguished, and that the workmen have been driven off the ground by the Native chiefs. The conduct of tho Gisborne directors is strongly animadverted on, and will probably be the ground for legal proceedings. Sir O, MaoMahon and Mr Jack return to Melbourne by the Rotomahana, to consult the Melbourne shareholders as to further proceedings.
