Australian tallow — Best beef, 40s ; best mutton, 455. Best Scotch pig iron, f.o.b. in Clyde, 495. Wool Sales At the wool sales to-day 8400 hales wore offered, and a firm and active demand was again experienced. Shipping. Arrived—Ship Timaru, from Timaru. March 9. Bank Discount. The Bank of England has to-day reduced its rate of discount to 4 per cent. CAPETOWN, March 8, Fighting in the Transvaal. Telegrams are to hand from the Transvaal, stating that further severe fighting has taken place between the Boers and the Natives under Chief Montsima, residing beyond the boundary fixed by the convention. The Boers twice attacked Montsima, but were repulsed on each occasion with heavy loss.
