THE WANGANUI ELECTION.

[PBBBS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.]

WANGANUI, March 8. The Wanganui election petition trial commenced to-day before the Chief Justice and Mr Justice Gillies. For the petitioners, Messrs Stout and Buckley; for the respondent, Mr H. Fitzherbert. The petition alleged various instances of bribery and intimidation on the part of John Anderson, said to be an agent of Mr Watt, the elected member. The Court expressed a doubt whether if all the allegations of intimidation were proved they would really amount to intimidation. The evidence was, however, all taken, and the petitioners’ case concluded tonight. The Court adjourned till 10 tomorrow, when the respondent's case wil be proceeded with.
