EXHIBITION SPORTS.
A meeting of friendly societies’ representatives in connection with the citizens’ sports committee was held last evening in the City Council Chambers, Present —Messrs W. G. Woodford (in the chair), B. Watts, W. Willstead, H. W. Newman, W. B. Hobbs, J. Gapes, S. D. Nathan, O. Foster, T. Q. Vennall, W. Jacques, J. S. Williams, and B. J. Leahy (hon. sec.). Mr Hobbs moved—“ That a deputation, consisting of Messrs Gapes, Nathan, and Leahy, be appointed to wait on the general committee and Messrs Joubert and Twopeny, with reference to the position of the procession at the time of opening the Exhibition.’’ The motion was carried. Resolved unanimously, on the motion of Mr Newman, “ That the deputation call the attention of the general committee to the uncalled for remarks of Mr H. Thomson at the last general committee meeting, as reported in the local papers, and state that the members of this sub-committee have no desire to push themselves where they do not appear to be required.” Mr Leahy having resigned the position of honorary secretary in consequence of stress of business, Mr Newman was elected to the office. The committee adjourned till Friday week, 17th instant, at 7 30 p.m.
