WAIMAKARIRI HARBOR BOARD.

The monthly meeting of this Board was held in the Kaiapoi Borough Council Chamber oh Monday evening. Present—Messrs Eckersley (chairman), Moore, Wearing, Smith, Mathews, and Parnbam. An application was made from Mr J. Sims for transfer of a lease of 145 ft of a river reserve from Mr Wearing to himself for the unexpirei term of the existing lease. On the motion of Mr Moore, seconded by Mr Mathers, tbe application was agreed to. Mr Moore, on behalf of a committee appointed to report on the matter, stated that they were of opinion the Board should join with Messrs Eckersley and Macfarlane in making a right of-way of 12ft from Charles street to the river, between the Northern Store and the store erected by that firm. On the motion of Mr Wearing, seconded by Mr Parnbam, it was d# cided that the Board give a right-of-way of 12ft between the properties referred to. An account of -£G for twelve months’ rent of the Council Chamber was presented for payment. Mr Moore hoped the Council would remit the item. Mr Wearing seconded a proposition to ask the Council to do so, as testing the question whether the Council really took any interest ia the work of the Board. He pointed out the Council allowed its chamber to be used each week by the local band “free of cost, while the Board was charged at the rate of about -&1 a sitting, the only cost to the Council being about eight pennyworth of kerosene It was decided to pass the account, the Council to be asked to remit it. The question of recommending a gentleman for appointment by the Governor as a member of the Board in place of Mr Beharrell was discussed. Mr Wearing proposed, Mr Parnbam seconded Mr J. Hurse; Mr Smith proposed, Mr Mathews seconded Mr H. J. Pay. On a division the votes were in favor of Mr Hurse. _Mr Wearing’s motion to go on with borrowing under the powers of the Waimakariri Harbor Act was further postponed, it being stated that a trial of the dredge and the machinery would be made before bringing the motion forward. The Board then adjourned.
