INDUSTRIAL ASSOCIATION.
A special general meeting of the members of the above was held at the Congrogational School-room last night. Mr J P. Jameson, the president of the association, occupied the ohair, and there was a good attendance. The objeot of the meeting was to decide whether or not the sub-committees appointed to carry out the representation of the colony should receive any funds from the £3OO set apart for Exhibition purposes, to defray the expenses of printing, &o , incurred by them. The chairman briefly introduced the business, and read the resolution passed on July 29th, 1880, directing that tho surplus of £3OO from the Exhibition held in the drill-shed be invested for promoting similar Exhibitions in future Mr W. S. King asked whether the president was not required by rule_ to have a certain number of members signing a requisition before he could oall a special meeting. The President replied that it might be so with respect to a meeting required to be called by individual members, but he took it the president himself had the power of calling a special meeting when he deemed fit. Mr K. Allan moved—" That the sum of £SO be taken from the deposit account and paid to the Exhibition committees formed to assist in the display of local productions at the forthcoming Exhibition." Mr George Tombs seconded the resolution. Professor Biokerton said he desired to move as an amendment—" That the sum of £IOO be voted to the Exhibition committee." Mr W. F. Warner seconded the amendment. Mr Howland said that he, as vioe-president of the association, on behalf of the other vicepresidents and some members of the association, offered the sum of £2O out of their own pockets to defray the expenses incurred by the Exhibition oommittee, provided no call is made on the funds of the Industrial Association for any purpose oonneoted with Messrs Joubert and Twopeny's exhibition." Mr Boss moved —" That the offer made by Mr Howland as vice president, on behalf of the committee and other vice-presidents, be accepted by the association. Mr W. S. King seconded this. After a lengthy discussion, in which Mesvrs Mosley, Howland, King, Weston, Ekberg, Bergb, Weston, Allan and Atkinson took part, the amendment of Professor Biokerton was put and lost. Mr Rosa' amendment was then put with the following result:—For, 46; against, 40. The amendment proposed by Mr Boss was thus carried. Mr Howland handed the £2O to the treasurer. The meeting then adjourned.
