The Bank rate of discount is 5 per cent.; market rate, 4£. New Zealand securities are unchanged at the following quotations :—Five per Cent. 10-40 Loan, 105 ; Five per Cent, 1889 Loan, 104; Four and a Half per Cent. 1879-1904 Loan, 100. Adelaide wheat, ex warehouse, remains at 55s ; New Zealand ditto at 51s. Adelaide flour, ex warehouse, 40s. Australian tallow—Best beef, 42s 6d; best mutton, 48s. Hides —Heavy quantities are in good demand, but light weights have declined £d. February 24. The lords Committee. The House of Lords has, in accordance with a resolution passed on the 17th inst., nominated Peers to serve on the Select Committee to enquire into the working of the Irish Land Act. The Marquis of Salisbury, at whose instigation the motion was passed, refused to relinquish the proposed enquiry, because of the motion tabled by Mr Gladstone in the House of (Commons, setting forth that the proposed action of the Lords is untimely, and will defeat the operation of the Act, and prove injurious to good government in Ireland. This motion is deemed by Lord Salisbury to be a threat to the Houbo of Lords. PARIS, February 23. Bank Rate. The Bank rate of discount is 4£ per cent.
