PAPANUI COURSING CLUB.

The annual meeting of the members of the Papanui Coursing Club was held last evening at the Sawyers’ Arms, Papanui, at 8 o’clock. There was a good attendance, and Mr J. Wild was voted to the chair. The Secretary, Mr O. A. Calvert, Y.S. submitted the annual report, which congratulated the members on the success of the club daring the first year of its existence. It had started with a very small membership, and there were now forty-two paid-up members on the books, with every prospect of several more joining during the coming season. The financial position of the club was satisfactory, the total amount of receipts being £247 16s, of which sum £lB9 10s 61 had been received on account of nominations and acceptances. The expenses were £245 6s 2d, leaving a balance of £2 9s lOd. The stakes paid away had constituted £169 of the expenditure. Three coursing meetings had been held during the year, namely, on May 24th—26th, on Mr J. Bailey’s property at West Melton ; on June 28th—30th on Mr S. Bailey’s land at Templeton, and on July 26th—28th on Messrs Carpenter and Holmes’ property at Yaldhurst. The thanks of the members were due to the above-mentioned gentlemen for their kindness in placing their land at the disposal of the club. The trials on the whole had been very satisfactory, the Sapling Stakes having been particularly successful. The two chief events of the season, the Members’ Plate and the Papanui Cup, had both been won by Mr H. McConnell’s Plying Pish. The Secretary expressed the regret generally felt by the committee at the departure of Mr J. Turner for England, that gentleman having acted as judge at the various meetings to the satisfaction of all parties. The thanks of the committee were due to those members who had assisted in carrying out the arrangements for the meetings. The adoption of the report was moved and carried. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year—Patron, Hon. W. Solleston, M.H.S.; president, Mr D. Thomas; vicepresidents, Messrs E. B. Hill, J. Hurse, Geo. Harper, W. Norman, and Dr. Prins. A working committee was also elected.

A vote of thanks to the chairman concluded ;he proceedings.
